World Airways Extends MD-11 Freighter Contract with Etihad Crystal CargoJuly 12, 2011
PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. (July 13, 2011) – World Airways, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Global Aviation Holdings, Inc. has extended to December 2012 an agreement with Etihad Crystal Cargo to provide two MD-11 cargo aircraft operating on international freighter routes.
“These two World Airways MD-11 freighters will help us maintain the cargo capacity we require as we sustainably grow our successful cargo business,” said Roy Kinnear, Senior Vice President of Etihad Crystal Cargo.
“Etihad Crystal Cargo is one of our longest-term customers, utilizing World’s MD-11 freighter aircraft continuously for the past four years,” said Brian Bauer, Global’s chief commercial officer. “We are pleased to be part of Etihad’s rapidly expanding international network.”
Etihad introduced all-cargo services from its hub at Abu Dhabi International Airport in February 2005 and currently operates a freighter fleet of one Boeing 777F, two Airbus A300-600RF regional freighters, two A330-200 freighters, in addition to the two MD-11 freighters from World Airways. Etihad Crystal Cargo won the prestigious "Air Cargo Industry Customer Care Award” in 2010, and operates to 83 destinations across the globe, 13 of which are freighter only. 26 of the total Crystal Cargo destinations are served by dedicated freighter aircraft. The airline’s total fleet stands at 61 Airbus and Boeing aircraft, with more than 100 aircraft on order, including 10 Airbus A380s, the world’s largest passenger aircraft.
